"2019 Elections: APC, PDP lost

But beyond all this divisive politicking and politics is the huge vote loss by both parties (PDP and APC) even in their areas of influence. In the northwest, the stronghold of Buhari, APC lost over 1.2 million votes, about 17 percent, between 2015 and 2019 (from 7.1 million to 5.9 million), while PDP lost about 800, 000 votes, about 33 percent in the southeast, the second stronghold of the party (from 2.4 million in 2015 to 1.6 million in 2019). This shows the fact that fewer voters see the two parties as alternatives. In Lagos, the APC lost over 211, 000 votes (from 792,460 in 2015 to 580, 825 votes in 2019), while it lost over 430, 000 in Kano State (from 1,903,999 in 2015 to 1,464,768 votes in 2019), Bauchi; 133,170 (from 931,598 in 2015 to 798,428 votes in 2019), Sokoto; 181,593 (from 671,926 in 2015 to 490,333), Oyo; 163, 000 (from 528, 620 in 2015 to 365, 229 votes in 2019). In fact, in more than half of the states where APC won, the votes received reduced, while the PDP gained some more votes in 16 of the APC states (including Kano, Kaduna, Katsina, Kebbi, Jigawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Kogi, Osun, Ogun, etc.) Moreover, while APC won in 21 states to PDP’s 16 in 2015 (FCT inclusive), it (the APC) managed to win 19 states in 2019, losing two states to PDP.

On the other side too, the PDP lost huge votes in its strongest stronghold: Rivers; 1,007,000 (from 1.48 million in 2015 to 473,971 votes in 2019 – more than a million votes lost), Akwa Ibom; 557,472 (from 953,304 in 2015 to 395, 832 in 2019), Bayelsa; 163,276 (from 361, 209 in 2015 to 197,933 votes in 2019), Delta; 617,337 (from 1,211,405 in 2015 to 594, 068 votes in 2019). Just like the APC too, the PDP lost millions of votes where it won, safe for states where it defeated the APC like Adamawa, Oyo and Ondo. Also, in the PDP stronghold states, the APC gained more votes than 2015: Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Abia, Bayelsa, Cross Rivers, Ebonyi, Delta, etc.

The governorship elections were even worse with majority of candidates across the APC and PDP winning with unpopular votes of less than 30%. When this is added to the huge number of those who refused to vote, it will be glaring that the capitalist political class of the two sides is only ruling with a weak tread of support."
